DIY St. Patrick's Day Themed Pillow Cover: A Festive Addition to Your Home Decor

Are you ready to add a touch of St. Patrick's Day spirit to your home decor? Look no further than this fun and easy DIY project: a 14-inch St. Patrick's Day themed pillow cover using the wrap-around envelope pillow method. This project is perfect for both beginners and experienced crafters, and it's a great way to celebrate the luck of the Irish! Let's get started.

#Materials You'll Need:

1. 1 yard of St. Patrick's Day themed fabric (green with shamrocks, leprechauns, or any other festive pattern; I got mine at Joann's fabric store during a sale)

2. Sewing machine or needle and thread if you are hand sewing

3. Matching thread

4. Scissors

5. Measuring tape/ruler

6. Straight pins or clips

7. Iron and ironing board

8. Pillow form (14 inches)

Step 1: Prepare Your Fabric

Start by washing and ironing your fabric to ensure it's clean and wrinkle-free. Lay your fabric flat on your work surface with the right side facing down.

Step 2: Measure and Cut Your Fabric

Using your measuring tape and scissors, measure and cut two pieces of fabric to 15x15 inches each. These pieces will form the front and back of your pillow cover.

Step 3: Prepare the Back Piece

Take one of the fabric pieces you cut and fold over one edge by about 1/2 inch. Press with your iron to create a clean edge. Then, fold over the same edge again by 1/2 inch and press again. This will be the hem for the envelope closure. Sew along the folded edge to secure the hem.

Step 4: Create the Envelope Closure

Lay the back piece of fabric flat with the right side facing up. Place the remaining fabric piece on top of it with the right side facing down, aligning the edges. The hemmed edge should be in the center, with the raw edges overlapping to create the envelope closure. Pin the edges in place.

Step 5: Sew Around the Edges

Using your sewing machine, sew around all four edges of the pillow cover with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Make sure to backstitch at the beginning and end to secure the stitches.

Step 6: Trim the Corners

Carefully trim the corners of the pillow cover diagonally, being careful not to cut into the stitches. This will reduce bulk and help the corners lay flat when you turn the cover right side out.

Step 7: Turn the Pillow Cover Right Side Out

Reach inside the envelope closure and carefully turn the pillow cover right side out. Use your

fingers or a blunt object (like a plastic letter opener or chopstick) to gently push out the corners for a crisp finish.

Step 8: Insert the Pillow Form

Now it's time to insert your 14-inch pillow form into the cover through the envelope closure. Fluff and adjust the pillow as needed to ensure it fills out the cover completely.

Step 9: Enjoy Your St. Patrick's Day Pillow Cover!

Congratulations! You've successfully created a festive St. Patrick's Day themed pillow cover using the wrap-around envelope pillow method. Place your new creation on your couch, bed, or favorite chair to add a touch of Irish charm to your home decor this St. Patrick's Day.

Conclusion:

DIY projects like this St. Patrick's Day pillow cover are not only fun and rewarding but also allow you to customize your home decor to match your style and personality.
